Clinical expertise
We work in the clinical areas our own people know from practice. Laboratory medicine is our foundation: our Medical Director has spent more than three decades in pathology, haematology and transfusion medicine. For other specialties we work with a panel of consultant clinical advisers, and appoint the adviser whose specialty matches each study.
In vitro diagnostics
We run performance studies for immunoassays, clinical chemistry assays, haematology analysers, molecular tests and rapid tests. Our Medical Director has evaluated diagnostic methods throughout her career, including published comparisons of polymerase chain reaction, microscopy and antigen assays, and of nucleic acid testing in blood donor screening.
- Study types
- Diagnostic accuracy, method comparison, precision, qualitative agreement.
- Led by
Prof. Nuzhat Mushahid
Medical Director
Pathology and laboratory medicine
We support studies that depend on laboratory endpoints: histopathology, clinical chemistry, microbiology and serology. We know how a hospital laboratory runs, what its quality system should contain and where pre-analytical errors arise.
- Study types
- Diagnostic accuracy studies, laboratory method evaluations, studies with central laboratory endpoints.
- Led by
Prof. Nuzhat Mushahid
Medical Director
Haematology and transfusion medicine
We cover anaemias, thalassaemia, disorders of haemostasis, immunohaematology and the use of blood components. Our team includes a consultant haematologist who has directed a national transfusion institute and a physician with a master’s degree in transfusion medicine and cellular and tissue therapies.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, observational studies, blood product utilisation studies, device and reagent evaluations.
- Led by
Prof. Nuzhat Mushahid
with Dr Abeera Aslam
Oncology
We support studies in haematological malignancies and solid tumours, with particular depth in the laboratory diagnosis and monitoring that oncology studies rely on.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, observational studies and registries, companion diagnostic performance studies.
- Led by
Dr Asjad Salamat
Consultant Oncologist, clinical adviser
Gastroenterology and hepatology
We support studies in viral hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. Viral hepatitis is a major health burden in Pakistan, and our Medical Director has published on hepatitis B and C in Pakistani blood donors.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, observational studies, diagnostic studies for hepatitis markers.
- Led by
Prof. Amjad Salamat
Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, clinical adviser
Dr Rohan Tariq
Gastroenterology, clinical adviser, United Kingdom
Pulmonology
We support studies in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary infections, including tuberculosis.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, observational studies, diagnostic studies.
- Led by
Dr Rahat Salamat
Pulmonologist, clinical adviser
Dermatology
We support studies in psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne and skin infections. Our Clinical Operations Manager is a dermatologist (FCPS) who has published an efficacy and safety study in inflammatory acne and served as secretary of the national working committee on biologic dose reduction in psoriasis.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, device and procedure studies, observational studies, quality-of-life studies.
- Led by
Dr Fatima Sajid
Clinical Operations Manager
Ear, nose and throat
We support studies in allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis and otitis media.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, device studies, observational studies.
- Led by
Dr Uzair Mushahid
ENT Surgeon, clinical adviser
Surgery and paediatric surgery
We support studies of surgical devices, wound care and perioperative treatments, including studies in children, where consent, assent and safety oversight need particular care.
- Study types
- Medical device investigations, Phase III and IV studies, observational studies.
- Led by
Prof. Dr Mushahid Aslam
Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, clinical adviser
Obstetrics and gynaecology
We support studies in pregnancy, contraception, menstrual and menopausal disorders, infertility and gynaecological infections. Studies in pregnancy need particular care with consent, safety follow-up of mother and baby, and the choice of sites.
- Study types
- Phase III and IV studies, observational and registry studies, device studies, diagnostic studies for antenatal screening.
- Led by
Dr Maimoonah Asif
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, clinical adviser, United Kingdom
Family medicine and primary care
Most patients in Pakistan are first seen in primary care. We support studies that recruit through family practices and community clinics, and post-marketing studies of medicines used widely in general practice, such as treatments for diabetes, hypertension and common infections.
- Study types
- Phase IV and post-marketing studies, observational studies, real-world evidence, point-of-care diagnostic studies.
